CFINR LEarning center

The Center for Integrity in News Reporting’s Learning Center serves as a dynamic hub for education and collaboration between students, educators, and journalists. The Learning Center works first to connect award-winning journalists with universities and other education organizations and second to bring the reporters to the programs at no cost to the host institution. Through this program, CFINR expands access to high-quality learning experiences in Journalism across the country. The Learning Center has established curriculum that reporters may use in planning each unique visit, with education opportunities for the partner institutions ranging from keynote forums to classroom drop-ins. The curriculum covers topics ranging from using the objective method in news reporting , sourcing, verification, transparency, and ethical judgment calls that shape journalism and rebuild public trust today.


By facilitating these connections, CFINR works to bridge the gap between theory and practice, enriches academic environments, and supports organizations to advance their educational goals. Our aim is to foster meaningful dialogue, inspire learning, and equip students with the real-life knowledge and perspectives needed to make a lasting impact on the next generation of journalists.

Upcoming Events

At the Center for Integrity in News Reporting (CFINR), we are committed to helping journalists and journalism students strengthen the principles that build public trust in news reporting. That commitment extends beyond recognizing excellence through our awards programs—it also includes sharing educational opportunities that help newsrooms and future journalists succeed.

One opportunity we are pleased to share is a complimentary legal webinar series offered through MIC Ltd. in partnership with Ballard Spahr, one of the nation's leading media law firms. The series covers practical legal issues that every journalist should understand, from newsgathering practices to privacy law and content clearance. The webinars are designed for working journalists and media organizations, and we believe they also offer tremendous value for journalism students preparing to enter the profession.


  • September 16 – Evaluating Privacy Concerns in Published Content
    Learn practical approaches to minimizing privacy-related legal risks while understanding the protections afforded to journalists.
  • October 27 – Best Practices to Avoid Clearance Failures
    A timely session covering releases, defamation risks, drone footage, AI-related issues, and other legal considerations involved in publishing content.


As many of you know, CFINR recently announced our new National Student News Reporting Prize, made possible through a generous $100,000 grant. The annual competition will recognize outstanding objective, impartial, and fair student news reporting from colleges and universities across the country. We believe opportunities like these webinars complement that initiative by helping students better understand the legal and ethical responsibilities that accompany quality news reporting.
